Overview

Bluxinga hired Red Corner's founder, Oshri Cohen, to evaluate the work done by the custom development agency they hired to build three web products. The dev shop was late by an entire year and was pestering Bluxinga to approve change requests.

Red Corner came in, evaluated every document ever sent by the dev agency, evaluated the code base and architecture, migrated their code base to Bluxinga's Github account so that they would own the source code and executed a deep dive analysis of the deliverables.

Red Corner approached the project as the Fractional CTO for Bluxinga and determined 15 pain points that needed to be rectified; chief among them was the inability to scale the web application beyond a few hundred users and the very real risk of double billing customers due to architectural errors.

Red Corner then prepared a project proposal to be submitted to another dev agency to rectify the problems and deploy the product within three months.

Problem

Bluxinga hired a custom development agency to build a new web business they wanted to spin up. After two years of delays and hundreds of thousands of dollars, they still needed a completed product and eventually contacted Red Corner to help guide them forward.

The app development agency did not know what they were doing and violated many standards and generally agreed-upon engineering standards, which led to cost overruns and a late project.

The custom app development company was tasked to build three web applications and matching mobile apps.

Red Corner performed a technical audit of the code base, project structure, architecture, requirements, go-live plan, emails and all documents, and we determined that the custom development agency operated in bad faith.

Some of the issues we found:

  • Badly structured code that has led to increased cost

  • Badly structured code so that the client would be forced to hire the dev agency again (a very popular tactic)

  • Unscalable codebase

  • bugs with double billing

  • bad faith solution design to inflate the project's cost rather than provide the best advice for the client.

  • These are just to name a few...
